Thunder Bay

In Thunder Bay, it’s all about playing hard and rewarding yourself. Thrill seekers will find no shortage of adventure, from epic hikes like Top of the Giant Lookout and paddling (or even kite surfing) on Lake Superior to visiting Kakabeka Falls, Ontario’s second-largest waterfall.

Check out the big, annual Lock and Paddle event that allows you to paddle using a hydraulic lift lock. How cool is that?! Post-paddle, we suggest a visit to the brand new Canadian Canoe Museum, right on the water, to learn all about canoe culture in Canada. 

Cyclists will also find home in Peterborough this summer with hundreds of kilometers of trails zipping through the city and into its neighbouring cottage country. Whether you’re looking for hills to climb or flat treks near the water, you’re sure to find it. Plus, they have a great selection of Ontario-by-bike certified stops to refuel at afterwards. 

When it’s time for food, Peterborough has you covered. Think fresh Spanish paella made with love at Fresh Dreams, beer brewed on site and paired with cubano spring rolls at Publican House or corn ribs tossed in jalapeno powder and lime crème at Love You, Mean It

Peterborough doesn’t skimp on their cafés and bakeries either! We love the laminated pastries (seriously, you haven’t had croissants like this) at Hard Winter Bakery where they specialize in really, really tasty bread and pastries. How about a coffee flight and a tasty sammy at Cork & Bean? Heading to that aforementioned Canadian Canoe Museum? Grab a butter tart or indulge in the charcuterie paddle filled with Ontario cheeses and locally-cured meats at on-site Silver Bean Café. Yum! 

 

Haliburton Highlands

For many Ontarians, Haliburton Highlands is the picture-perfect version of cottage country—rocky shorelines, towering pines, and pristine lakes around every bend. Outdoor adventure isn’t just available here—it’s the reason to visit.

Whether it’s a dip in the lake after a glass of Ontario Chardonnay, a climb up the iconic Dorset Lookout Tower, or a backcountry camping trip in Algonquin Park, this region delivers. Nestled between Muskoka and Ottawa, it offers plenty of forest, lake, and stunning views to explore. Into biking? Ride through the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre.

Don’t skip out on a stay at the Elora Mill Hotel & Spa, perched dramatically above the gorge.
