Making Spirits Bright in Guelph-Wellington

If you like your holiday dining with a dash of charm, a sprinkle of countryside magic and maybe a little frosting of snow, Guelph-Wellington’s got you covered. This region does cozy better than anyone. Think twinkle lights, good craft beer and enough local flavour to make even the most jaded city foodie grin.

Elliott Tree Farm

Part Christmas-card backdrop, part culinary delight, Elliott Tree Farm turns the simple act of choosing a tree into a full-day outing. Between the scent of pine and the sound of crunching snow, you’ll find homemade treats and warm drinks that make the experience truly magical. Grab a hot chocolate, snack on something sweet at the on-site Horse Barn Canteen, and let the holiday spirit work its magic.

Starting November 15th, not only can you cut-your-own tree but you can enjoy a hike through the farm’s sugarbush trails, shop the heritage fir barn, meet Santa (special dates only) and take part in some holiday photo opps like the elfmobile and Santa’s airplane!

Woolen Mill Kitchen Cooking Classes

At Woolen Mill Kitchen in Erin, you can roll up your sleeves and master new skills in a hands-on, laughter-filled environment. Whether you’re whipping up holiday pastries or perfecting your pasta game, you’ll leave with full bellies, happy hearts, and maybe a few flour smudges on your sweater.

This holiday season, their Holiday Creativity class combines art and food (which we also consider art for the record) into one great class! You’ll craft one-of-a-kind art cards with locally-foraged inks and create some edible holiday gifts like homemade granola, chocolate truffles, festive chutneys and even handmade crackers!

Private classes and workshops are also available. Registration for all workshops (public or private) is required in advance!

The Bearded Barista Christmas Cafe in Rockwood

Run by caffeine wizards, The Bearded Barista Christmas Cafe in Rockwood celebrates the holidays year-round but of course, at Christmas, they step things up a notch. The space is decked out with twinkle lights, holiday tunes and the smell of freshly roasted coffee that could revive even the weariest holiday shopper. 

Expect seasonal drinks like their signature white chocolate and peppermint Liquid Candy Cane, salted caramel hot chocolate and apple cider. All season long you can also look forward to events like Donut Fridays and even craft nights!

Drayton Chop House

For a classic holiday dinner with flair, Drayton Chop House delivers. Think sizzling pork schnitzel, juicy burgers and the kind of desserts that require zero restraint. Salted caramel cheesecake, anyone?

Step into this wee French bistro for a modern yet cozy twist to your holidays. Perfect for a holidate, this spot specializes in refined European fare like their Crepes Bourbon with caramelized apples and smoked bacon and croque mademoiselle with French loaf bread by day.

At night, cozy up in their basement speakeasy for live music and savoury dishes like barbacoa beef tacos and vegan Cambodian amok.  Ready for dessert? Grab a crepe au citron with two forks or a mousse au chocolat for something decadent! 

Tapavino Wine & Tapas Bar, Fergus

November 15: Window Wonderland in Erin

Get in on classic, small-town Ontario fun with Window Wonderland in Erin! On November 15, enjoy a tree lighting ceremony down town followed by warm drinks (hot chocolate, anyone?), window display reveals and an evening of shopping as stores open late! You may even see a certain magic gentleman in red if you’re lucky!

November 28 + 29: Christmas Market at the Wellington County Museum and Archives

Ring in the holiday season at the Wellington County Museum and Archives with a Christmas Market! You can expect handmade market items, live entertainment and some tasty eats along the way from the likes of Ish and Chips and Pabla’s Street Food of India among others. On Friday, get your hands messy as you make candles, decorate cookies and make some new alpaca friends with the folks from Harmony Meadows.

December 7: Nordic Market in Puslinch

Inspired by traditional European markets, the Nordic Market in Puslinch brings together food, crafts, and winter cheer. With a Dutch and viking twist, this Nordic Market provides plenty of unique holiday fun. From the Smørrebrød(traditional Danish open-faced sandwich) Buffet and outdoor Beer Garden to a exploring a Nisse trail through the woods, there’s plenty of holiday magic to be discovered. 

Unique Dining Experiences in Durham Region

Durham Region is known for its mix of big-city buzz and small-town charm, and nowhere does that show up more deliciously than in its restaurants. Here’s where to pull up a chair and toast to the holidays.

The Springwood

If rustic elegance had a holiday soundtrack, it would sound like the buzz of conversation at The Springwood. This charming, Feast On® certified Whitby gem leans into local ingredients with dishes that taste like they were crafted for cozy winter nights. 

Expect warm bread, glowing lights and a menu that keeps both foodies and comfort-seekers happy with thoughtfully sourced, Ontario ingredients. Think roasted beets and pears with toasted hazelnuts, delicata squash rings with chili and ramp mayo and so much more!

Just last year, their holiday cocktail menu used recipes from the 1700s to craft some truly unique specials like Lavender Milk Punch and their house-made egg nog. Now all you need to worry about is your reservation!

Nest (Trail Hub)

When you walk into Nest, the world slows down a bit. Feast On® certified and priding themselves on supporting local farmers and food producers, Nest is perfect for those indulging in a day outdoors at Trail Hub or those looking for a special date night out. 

With its cozy décor, inventive cocktails and locally inspired menu, it’s a top choice for a holiday meal that feels a little special. The dishes often highlight Ontario ingredients, and the plating is almost too pretty to eat (almost). 

While we’re not sure what’s on the horizon yet for this year’s holiday season, last year did not disappoint. The chef worked with the team at 100km foods to craft a menu full of goodness like their brisket papparadelle and mushroom burrata toast. Topped off with a wine list packed with Ontario VQA options, it certainly makes for a special night out.

Mansion Kitchen + Bar

Walking into Mansion Kitchen + Bar feels like stepping into your friend’s fancy house if your friend also had a team of brilliant chefs and a well-stocked cocktail bar. Twinkling lights set the mood while you tuck into dishes that balance upscale flair with homey comfort. 

Think jerk chicken and cilantro spring rolls, wagyu beef sliders and even gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches if you want to let your inner kid out. Order a cocktail sure to make your holiday season feel a little warmer (spicy mango marg, anyone?) and tuck in.

Le Bulgogi brings a little heat to your holidays with the kind of Korean flavours that make cold weather something to celebrate. The sizzling platters, fragrant spices and bright, bold side dishes are a party on the table.

Avanti Trattoria

At Avanti, it’s all about la dolce vita, Durham-style. This family-run Italian spot has been a local favourite for years, and for good reason. The pasta is handmade, the wine list is extensive and every bite feels like a little celebration. Linger over a second glass and forget the snow swirling outside or dive into a comforting dish like their penne arrabiata. Go for something hearty like osso buco or a wood-fired pizza, and finish with tiramisu for a true Italian staple that won’t be upstaged.

Three Six Kitchen

Comforting and unpretentious, this farm-to-table restaurant in Bowmanville is the dream of award-winning, Executive Chef and owner, Michael McKay. The menu is approachable but still has a gourmet flare with homey dishes like their schnitzel sandwich, tomato and coconut curry and duck breast from King Cole Ducks

During the holidays, expect comforting flavours done beautifully like in their sticky toffee pudding topped with pomegranate seeds or their butter chicken croquettes. The vibe is equal parts relaxed and refined, making it a stellar spot for celebrating with friends or sneaking in a quiet date night.

Speaking of date nights, every Tuesday and Wednesday at Three Six, you can enjoy one app, two mains and a dessert (two forks), for just $70! Talk about a holiday season deal. 

Pickles & Olives Bistro

If the name alone doesn’t make you smile, the food will. Pickles & Olives is a Port Perry treasure where casual meets classy. Their menu is packed with fresh, flavourful dishes that feel just right for the holidays. 

Think warm brie with an apricot jam bringing you right back to summer days, chicken marsala topped with warm mushrooms and wine sauce and homemade soups sure to make any chilly day feel a little warmer. 

With a menu built for take out or dining in, we suggest a day of shopping and walking in Port Perry before hitting up this stop and treating yourself! 

Stefano’s Bistro

With a menu changing this often, it’s hard to know what will show up on the plate BUT we know it will be tasty. 

Past holiday favs have included everything from tender Ontario duck leg confit to tender and juicy Ontario rack of lamb. Now all you have to do is decide what to order!

Treadwell
