#1 Fawn Over Market
Where: 22186 Loyalist Parkway, Carrying Place, ON (View Map)
A visit to Fawn Over Market feels like stepping into a chef’s dream pantry. Helmed by Chef Alexandra Feswick, former Executive Chef at the Feast On® certified Drake Devonshire, and Michelin-trained Co-Executive Chef Marc Dufour, this Carrying Place gem is a curated celebration of Ontario flavours.
Inside, you’ll find fresh-baked focaccia, bagels, and sourdough, plus pantry staples with a twist: think County Kombucha, small-batch preserves, crabapple juice, hot sauces, and wines from The Grange. It’s part boutique market, part culinary hub, with a warm, welcoming vibe that invites you to linger.
The prepared foods are equally delicious. Shop from your choice of breakfast sandwiches, pizzas, and daily to-go meals made in-house using local, seasonal ingredients wherever possible. On Saturdays, the space transforms with cooking classes led by Chef Alexandra or guest chefs, offering hands-on sessions in everything from tiramisu crafting to pizza-making and wine pairings. You’ll leave inspired, well-fed, and probably carrying home something delicious for later. We tried the tiramisu workshop and it was so fun!
#2 Small Scale Bread
Where: 14 N Front St Unit C, Belleville, ON (View Map)
If you believe bread is best when baked with heart and heritage, Small Scale Bread in Belleville is a must-visit. This micro-bakery produces daily loaves and rotating specials that keep locals coming back week after week.
Their staples—Country White, Fifty-Fifty Whole Wheat, and their baguettes—are reliable favourites, but it’s their daily lineup that really shines. Think Toasted Walnut Thursdays, Olive Loaf Fridays, and Super Seedy Saturdays among other specials. Don’t forget to pair your loaf with a strong, locally-roasted coffee, available on-site.
Want to take ’em to go? No worries!

A little slice of Paris in downtown Belleville, L’Auberge de France is your go-to for buttery, hand-rolled croissants and refined French pastries. On Saturdays, locals line up for fresh almond, butter, and chocolate croissants, plus house-made quiches so good you’ll want to take a whole one home.
Owner and chef Jean-Marc brings classic French technique to everything from raspberry Charlotte and royal chocolate mousse cake to hazelnut pear tarts and coffee crème brûlée mousse tarts. The in-house café is open Wednesday to Saturday, so plan a lunch of roast beef baguette sandwiches, soups, and pastries before browsing their gourmet shop packed with imported cheeses, charcuterie, and Parisian essentials.
#4 The Kafana
Where: 199 Front St #101, Belleville, ON (View Map)
While not a bakery, The Kafana deserves a spot on any baked-goods lover’s itinerary thanks to two standout Eastern European treats: baklava and banichki.
We cannot recommend their baklava enough! This golden treat is lovingly layered with pistachios, walnuts, and flaky phyllo, and sweetened with rich Lewa Farm Ontario local honey. Pair it with a traditional Turkish/Greek-style coffee, brewed using quietly coffee beans roasted nearby!
Don’t miss the banichki—crispy, phyllo-wrapped triangles stuffed with salty Bulgarian feta. Served warm, they’re comfort food at its best.
More than a café or restaurant, The Kafana is a gathering place, like its namesake in the Balkans. “It’s where locals sip, share, and stay awhile. Come hungry, leave joyful”.
Kingston
Keep travelling north east along the 401 for about an hour and you’ll find yourself in Kingston! This city has loads of old world charm as Canada’s previous capital, filled with limestone buildings, vibrant patios and a music scene that is only growing. Of course, they don’t skimp on the sweet treats either! Keep reading for ways to tickle those taste buds.

For an experience that blends culinary elegance with local artistry, the Afternoon Tea at Kingston’s Secret Garden Inn is not to be missed. Set in a beautifully restored 1888 Victorian mansion, this tradition is served on custom-made tiered stands by local blacksmith Stefan Duerst and potter Mark Lemieux.
The menu includes house-made sweet and savoury bites, buttery scones, delicate cakes, and perhaps even a glass of bubbly. It’s a lovely option for a bridal shower, special celebration, or just a leisurely afternoon made extraordinary. Remember that reservations are required!
#2 Mac’s Chocolate & Bakeshop

Craving something sweet and sustainable? Mac’s Chocolate & Bakeshop delivers on both. Specializing in bean-to-bar chocolate and fine pastries, this Kingston gem crafts everything from scratch using organic, fair-trade cacao sourced from the Dominican Republic and Peru.
The chocolate is single origin, roasted and stone-ground for up to 60 hours to bring out rich, regional notes. On the pastry side, you’ll find indulgences like Black Forest gateaux, chocolate & hazelnut cookies, and vanilla bean crème brûlée. It’s an artisan experience that makes dessert feel like a destination.
#3 Bread & Butter Bakery
Where: 1530 Bath Road, Kingston, ON (View Map)
Started by Wendy Whitall in 1998, Bread & Butter Bakery is a true community gem with a story as heartwarming as its pies. What began as a family-run business now includes over 30 team members—and yes, her grown daughters are still involved.
Their white chocolate cranberry scones, carrot ginger pecan muffins, and blueberry lemon buns have earned cult status. But if you only try one thing? Make it a slice of rhubarb apple pie or coconut cream pie—they’re crowd-pleasers for a reason.
Pro tip: We highly recommend you also check out Feast On certified Toast & Jam Café — a sister company to Bread & Butter Bakery!
