Savouring the Taste of Italy in Kingston at Atomica Kitchen + Cocktails

You might remember our previous blog about Black Dog Tavern! Well, as it turns out Tim Pater and his staff weren’t done there. Enter Atomica, Kingston’s first authentic Mediterranean eatery.

Hot tip: Atomica accepts Feast On® vouchers! If you’ve got one, consider using it here or buying one for a friend.

Diving into the Delicious World of Atomica Kitchen + Cocktails

Atomica Kitchen + Cocktails in Kingston started when the back third of the building Black Dog Tavern calls home became available.

Rather than move out of the entire building, owner Tim Pater and his team decided to open a second restaurant there that would secure the building’s beautiful back courtyard for their sister restaurant, Black Dog Tavern. With the opening of Atomica, Kingstonians’ were able to enjoy Mediterranean dishes with an emphasis on Italian.

When Atomica first opened, they served up strictly authentic Italian cuisine in true Roman pizzeria style. That meant no Caesar salad, no cut pizza and certainly no chicken on pizza! It was a very modern space and the Roman aesthetic made it a sleek, cool spot to grab a bite.

The Menu Today at Atomica

Today, the menu at Atomica has expanded slightly and shifted a bit to encompass more cuisines from the Mediterranean (and yes, even a kale Caesar salad that is delicious– think smoked bacon, grilled lemon, herb croutons. . . you get it).

The Food at Atomica

Under the helm of Chef Cass Mercier, the menu at Atomica has expanded to encompass an entire section of plant-based options so that omnivores and vegetarians can easily dine and bond over mouth-watering food together. Think crispy fried tofu bao buns, funghi pizza and rigatoni primavera for starters.

A section of small plates serves up unreal harissa cauliflower popcorn and loaded hummus while fresh pasta is still made daily like their butternut squash ravioli and pappardelle.

Stone baked pizza is still the star of the show here with classics like a Margherita sitting alongside fresh versions like the Gettin’ Figgy With It topped with fig jam mascarpone and the So-press-a that Memory featuring soppressata salami, red onion, green pepper, cremini mushrooms and green olives.

What we’re trying to say is that it’s pretty darn difficult to go wrong here.

The Cocktails at Atomica

Alongside its great selection of food, Atomica also prides itself on a wicked cocktail menu of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

From their Pear-fect Martini and the Atomica Caesar to the Raspberry-Rhubarb Margarita and Damn Good Negroni, those looking for something on the stiff side will have no problem ordering a few of these while non-alcoholic drinkers will adore the Sunshine Up North, Mango Mule and Roseberry Smash.

Of course, alongside cocktails, they also have some great craft beers and wine (including non-alcoholic versions of those as well). Sip and savour creations by some of the area’s coolest breweries and wineries including Mackinnon Brothers, Skeleton Park and Rosehall Run.
